Planning - Original Video Analysis

Analysis of Music Video

I play dirty by Krept and Konan is a good example of what Goodwin would explain as disjuncture. Krept and Konan's video is focused on them mainly and does not amplify or illustrate the lyrics of the song.

Mise-en-scene:

Colours - This video has two different main  colour focuses. In most of the beginning shot and the chorus backtrack they background is grey, this works will with the colour of their sweaters and t-shirts which switch constantly from  black to white.
This is an example of the Black and White theme.
As you can see they are also both wearing dark shades.
Soon after the first verse the colour of the background changes and remains a light pink colour throughout until the end when it goes back to the grey background.
This is the example of the change in the background colour.
Girls dancing. Their make-up and outfits add colour to the video and brighten up the shot.
The girls in this music video are dressed in the same hoodie's as Krept and Konan. The girls hoodie's however are cut revealing more skin, making them look more appealing and sexy.

Camera work:
The various different shot types in this video highlight the main artists and make sure that all attention is on them.
Close-up of Krept at opening of music video
This is a close-up of Krept's face at the very beginning  of the video after the record label Play Dirty is shown on screen. This is the first time we see Krept. The close-up emphasises the importance of him within the song and introduces him to the audience as the main or one of the main artists.

Mid close-up of Krept at beginning of video
Mid close-up of Konan at beginning of video
Both above shots are mid close-ups of Krept and Konan. These shots appear as their names at said at the beginning of the song. This again introduces them to the audience and allows the audience to focus on them more, as they are the artists. It is also a pleasant introduction  to the song.

Example of two-shot: Krept and Konan

This is an example of a two-shot of Krept and Konan. They both take turns and switch from being in the front and being part of the background. in this shot their is more focus on the artist in front, in this case Krept as he is the one performing at that moment in the song.

Example of two-shot
The above screen shot is again a two-shot but with a girl which adds to the song rather then it simply just being Krept and Konan.

Extreme close-up of Lips at Chorus
This is an extreme close-up of a girls lips which runs through the whole of the chorus along with a couple other base tracks of girls dancing. The reason for this close-up is not to draw to much attention to the girl hence the reason her face is not shown while her lips are moving.

A major part of the camera work that makes this video successful is the camera movement. The camera constantly moves creating a video that moves with the beat. This creates a distorted affect which adds to the video as the song is up beat and fast.

Editing:
The fast pace editing of this music means the cuts between different base tracks are quick which adds extra effect to the video creating a more exciting product.

Along with the camera movement, various different shots and angles. The rapid editing adds extra depth to the video making it more interesting and fun. This video is a good example of a video that uses effects when editing. On various occasions the imagine is distorted or split into two.
